You might require the services of a UK certified translator if:

You are selling your property in France : Your Estate Agent might require you to get a Certified Translation into English of the French contract to ensure that you understand the terms and conditions of the sale.

You are buying a house in the UK after having sold your property in France: Once in the UK your solicitor might ask you to provide a Certified Translation into English of your French Certificate, contract of sale or deed, "Attestation" in French, in order to show the transfer of ownership of your previous house.

There is a simple process that you need to go through to instruct an agency to sell your property. This will include a preliminary visit, so that the agency may explore the area, take pictures, carry out an estimation of value, collect all necessary information in order to draft a legal document entitled the «mandat de vente» [Instruction authorising the agency of your choice to sell on your behalf] as well as any additional useful data that potential clients may request.

When the Sale Instruction is ready, two originals in French will be sent to you which you must sign, date and return to the agency. This is when you might need the translation from French to English. The agency will then validate the documents and start marketing your property - one of the originals will then be sent back to you.

If you want to lower the selling price at any point, two originals of a document entitled « avenant » [rider to the Sale Instruction] will be sent to you. You will then need again a translation of these documents before you sign them. The reduced price will be displayed on the site once the new documents are signed and sent back to the agency.

We are applying for a mortgage with HSBC. As we are based in France, they require a Certified Translation into English of our bank statements, credit card statements and payslips. Is this something that you could do? Can you give an estimate as to how much this would be?

Yes, I can provide you with a Certified Translation into English of your French bank statements, credit card statements and payslips. In order to give you a quote, I will need to see the documents that you need translated. So, please take a good quality photo of all your bank statements, credit card statements and payslips and email them to me. Our broker said that HSBC International requires the certified translation in PDF format. The translation would also need to be signed and stamped. Can you send me the translation in PDF format? Will you sign and stamp the translation?

I edited some personal and sensitive information in my payslips and bank statements, is it normal for the final translation to include edited or hidden text or do you need the full contents?

It is common not to include some details. For example, if in the original document the client has crossed out some details, I will not include those. If your bank doesn't need those details, I don't need to include them in the translation. This is up to the bank that is processing your mortgage application.

Do I need a certified translation of my French police report?

Having personal items stolen is serious so you need to make sure you report the theft. The stolen item itself should be reported to the police. If you have insurance for the item, you'll almost certainly need a police crime report before the insurance company will pay out or send a replacement. If your report is in French you will need a certified translation.

I lost my police report, what can I do?

If you reported a theft in France but you lost your report, these are your options: You can contact the French local police where you reported your missing belongings by phone and ask them to send you a copy of the report. In less than a month you should receive the copy of your police report. If you find it difficult to communicate with the police in French I can assist you with this. I can call on your behalf and ask them for a copy of your report. Contact me now: info@cltranslations.co.uk

We needed the "Attestation", from the sale of our house in France, translated into English for our Solicitors to enable us to buy a house in England. This was quickly and efficiently carried out at very reasonable cost. This has enabled us to proceed with the purchase of the house as the translation was accepted by our Solicitors. Thank you for a great service and we are very happy to recommend your services.
